About Steven

My Background

"I became inspired by the method of Hatha yoga practice known as Vinyasa Krama that was taught by the legendary Yoga master Sri T Krishnamacharya to his student of over 30 years Srivatsa Ramaswami".

I have a degree in Optometry & Visual Science and had a successful career working as an Optometrist in private practice and also within the National Health Service.  Over the years I noticed that my health and wellbeing were beginning to suffer and that I was using unhealthy ways to 'deal' with stress at work. I discovered yoga from a book called 'Wake up to Yoga' and I can remember practicing some of the exercises at home and began to notice a gradual improvement in my health. This motivated me to take some classes with a teacher which turned out to be transformational and lead me to pursue my interest in yoga further.  I studied with several teachers from different lineages.

I became inspired by the method of Hatha yoga practice known as Vinyasa Krama that was taught by the legendary Yoga master Sri T Krishnamacharya to his student of over 30 years Srivatsa Ramaswami.

I completed a 200 hour UK based teacher training in Vinyasa Krama Yoga with Steve Brandon of Harmony Yoga Academy in 2010 & continued training with him on the therapeutic application of yoga.

I have also completed various comprehensive training programs with Srivatsa Ramaswami including Vedic chanting, Therapeutic Yoga, the study of traditional yoga texts such as Hatha Yoga Pradipika, Patanjali Yoga Sutras and Bhagavad Gita.

I am a qualified Ayurvedic Life Style Consultant with the American Institute of Vedic Studies and learned the fundamental principles of Ayurvedic massage in India.

I have been studying, training and teaching yoga in various countries including New Zealand, India, Luxembourg, Greece and Italy.

Recently, I returned to the UK with my wife and young son so that I could share my knowledge of yoga with the local community.

I specialise in teaching personal yoga lessons in Hertfordshire as well as yoga classes for beginners.

I also work part-time in the Hare Krishna temple bakery and am dedicated to studying and practising Bhakti (devotional) yoga at home and at Bhaktivedanta Manor Hare Krishna temple.

You can also find me at the Radlett allotment gardens where I enjoy growing organic fruit and vegetables.
